Though I choose to celebrate Mother's Day, I am one of the unfortunate ones who lost a baby. May 10th is a day that will live in my memory forever. I was in my 26th week of pregnancy when my baby decided it was time to see the world. This was back in 1988. Today, he might have had a better chance of survival, but back then his lungs were simply too small to support his needs.
We chose, for a variety of reasons, not to try again, which I don't regret, though I still find myself getting weepy from time to time.
I wrote a fictionalized version of my situation in my novel "Acting Lessons." The story has its foundations in the musical "Kiss Me Kate," but the heroine's journey includes more than one miscarriage that has made her leery to try again.
